Open Kitchen Shelves are Hot!

open-kitchen-cabinets.jpg

Susan Serra of the Kitchen Designer confirms that the trend towards open kitchen shelves and cabinets is very hot right now. Not everyone requires the sleek frosted glass or oak built-ins anymore. Open kitchen shelves offer less privacy but they also provide ease of use as well as a warmth for showing your taste in dishware and glasses.

Thank you for linking to this post! I appreciate it! You know, you hit on something, by saying "ease of use." It's really true. One can easily change their mind on what to store on their shelves, quickly and easily moving objects around, maybe changing for the seasons, even in a small way. Change is fresh, and open shelving gives that opportunity. Good catch!

The problem with open shelving is that, in a real working kithen, your plates and everything else on the shelves, gets covered with a delightful layer of grease....

Yeah, this is something I have been wondering about. They look so nice in photo shoots but in reality how do you keep them clean? And all my stuff never looks that neat, where are they storing all their stuff that doesn't match (Nalgene bottles, travel coffee mugs, the ugly stuff)? I would love to put them in my kitchen based on how they look in photos like this one, but is it realistic?

I was wondering if you know the color of the cabinets in the "open shelves
are hot" post? I love the design and color and would like to match the
paint. Thank you so much for your time.
