Affordable Green Building

university-arizona-architec.jpg

At the University of Arizona (our Alma Mater), a group of 24 architecture students are attempting the task of designing and building 5 energy-efficient homes that are "affordable". According to Mary Hardin, project manager for the Civano Demonstration Project, the goal of this project is to prove that the cost of conservation strategies needn't be the bane of the green-building movement. Each house will work towards achieving the same goal but through different strategies. We'll post a follow-up on the results of their work.

Thanks for your great work on your green buildings.

I wrote a post about buying green flooring. Perhaps it would be of interest to your readers:

Brazilian Teak, Slave Labor, and the Destruction of the Rain Forest.

You can find it at:

Anything that you can do to help promote awareness of this issue will be greatly appreciated. Normally, I don't ask for this kind of help, but the issue is that important to me.

Thank you!
