The trend to small homes is starting to take hold as they are typically more energy efficient and community friendly. Smaller furniture is following this lead and is now coming in vogue.

New Yorkers have always been limited in living space and a few furniture manufacturers and websites have catered to this group which continues to grow as people move to urban areas and eschew the larger homes.

This article from the Wall Street Journal identifies some of the trends in smaller furniture and highlights the retailers who are creating product lines based on small spaces.

    This is a good resource. When I first moved into my New York apartment I needed a small couch of a certain size, and I really didn't find many options. I ended up finding a good one, but I didn't really get the chance to shop around too much.
