The Best Plants for Your Window Box

window-box-flowers.jpg

On the subject of flowers, the Manhattan Users Guide has answered the question of "What can I plant in my window box?" We've always been partial to Zinnias and Impatiens but MUG also recommends "Portulaca, which now comes in double-flowered varieties and Sanvitalia, a tiny black-eyed Susan, which are both very drought resistant."

This article also warns us that window boxes have a habit of blowing off their window so make sure that the window box is properly secure and don't just rely on it's weight or fit to keep it tied down. Here's a how-to for securing the window box to your house.

  • Nancy
After visiting Italy last summer - I have planted petunia's in my window boxes. I have never been a big fan of petunia's, but these are beautiful in a window box and they are very tough plants. They look gorgeous as they spill out of the box and down a wall.
  • Thanks for the recommendation of petunias. We will have to consider them for our next box.
