Planting the DIY seed in your kids can start with these builder toys selected by ohdeedoh, a home design blog with a focus on children and their living environment.

But for the older kids read on for favorites from my childhood.

I spent many hours building cranes and a buildings with my Erector set and I'm now tempted to drop 40 bones on this awesome Erector set version of the Empire State building.

Lincoln Logs also captured my imagination and I just discovered that they were invented in 1916 by John Lloyd Wright, the son of the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
