No Market for Hobbit Homes

shire-tolkien-hobbit-lotr.jpg

Lord of the Rings fans may have to look elsewhere to find authentic homes modeled after the Shire found in the J.R.R. Tolkien books. The developer of this unique community, Ron Meyers, is now in financial ruin and he's placed blame on the current real estate crisis.

It looks like this development was in trouble before the housing crash as only one home was sold since 2006. Maybe he should turn it into an amusement park?

Dude that totally sucks! Now I have to get real hobbits to built it.
  • I reckon there is a fine line between charm and gaudy! I can see a more subtle country village atmosphere, but people looking for $700,000 homes don't want to live in a hobbit house. Scale it down, make them $100,000 - $200,000, and perhaps you could find your maverick community. It may be a good concept for a vacation community too. All that being said, I hope they can still make it work.
