The only time you may ever concern yourself with a wall stud is when hanging a mirror or painting. Remember most studs are 16 to 24 inches apart on center. So when you find one stud you can always locate the adjacent one.

  • Great graphic.
    You might want to mention that the 'jack' stud is also known as a 'trimmer' in other areas.
    Also mention that in a typical 'stud' wall that the total rough vertical dimension is 97 1/8'', having the bottom, and two top plates.
    The 97 1/8 allows for a 5/8 underlayment and or a 1/2'' drywall ceiling (or the reverse- 1/2 underlay-5/8 ceiling0 which results in a 'standard' 8' ceiling height.
