The shelter publishing space hasn't been the same since Domino magazine closed last year. But the newly re-launched Brides.com (another Conde Nast publication) has resurrected some Domino content which is now available through their site.

Dwell on Design 2010: Contemporary and Sustainable

Dwell-on-Design05.jpg

This was our first time visiting Dwell on Design which was held at the Los Angeles convention center. It's billed as the largest design show on the West coast. There were over 200 exhibitors and a ton of discussion panels that focused on design and sustainability.

HP also sponsored a blogger lunch in which they announced a few new products. The laptop that caught our eye was from their collaboration with Vivienne Tam who they said came to the first meeting with a bouquet of peonies and wanted the them to look like they were behind glass in the design of the mini-laptop. It came out pretty well and sure beats the typical PC designs we come to know and be bored of.

Mood Boards Made Simple By OlioBoard

Ever get stuck on a home decor project? Have problems envisioning a room finished (you know, past the bare drywall and exposed wires)? Or wondering how an out-of-this world color palette might actually work together, but afraid of purchasing and painting your way to disaster?

Me too. That's why I was so excited to find OlioBoard, a website that helps you create mood boards for spaces using real items from accessible brands, like West Elm, IKEA, and Graham & Brown.

The site says that an OlioBoard "... is yours to craft -- an interactive tool to experiment with the style and mood of a space." They encourage you to collect "sets" of items to create your ideal living space. And then they offer a community where you can get feedback on your possible design and learn how to make your fictional space work best for you -- all before you purchase a single chair or picture frame.

Video Interview with HGTV Designer Libby Langdon

libby-langdon-designer.jpg

Last week I had the opportunity to do an interview with HGTV designer Libby Langdon and home tech specialist David Gregg. I called in and could watch them answer my questions via a live feed on my computer. There was a slight delay but otherwise it was kinda cool.

They weren't prepped for any of my exact questions but seemed very polished and sharp and thoroughly answered my questions in regards to design and home technology.

Read on for the video.
