Sealing the tiles and spaces around your bath and shower is vital to keeping moisture from seeping into the walls as well as protecting your home from mold and mildew.
Here's a how-to from the HGTV show "Help Around the House" that takes you through the steps of caulking and grouting your bathroom.

Sidewalk cracks are unsightly and if you let them go they will continue to get worse over time. You can easily repair them which may help stop them from spreading but the best prevention is to make sure you've got "control joints" cut out of the concrete. This is best done before the concrete sets but it can also be done later with a circular saw.

Bathroom exhaust fans are a must in any modern bathroom, including those in your "old" home. Trapped moisture can do even more damage to an older home which also may not have a bathroom that is as well insulated. Installing a bathroom exhaust fan can prove difficult depending on the location of your bathroom but here are some tips from Old House Journal.
* Locate the fan close to the shower.
* Keep the run of duct as short and straight as possible.
* Seal the ducts so moisture can’t escape, and seal the fan housing to the ceiling with a bead of caulk.

PBS is now selling the DVD version of the popular do-it-herself book Dare to Repair. Subjects covered include home safety, plumbing, walls and doors, and major appliances. Filmed before a female studio audience this video is sure to cover all of the home repair issues important to them.
