Space heaters are a necessity in homes or offices where you need a more personalized temperature control that you just can't get right through central heat or don't have the ability to turn the air down (office buildings).

Carbon Fiber Safety-Toe Work Boots
Won't Weight You Down

wolverine-boots.jpg

There is now an alternative to steel toed work boots. These work boots from Wolverine have a carbon fiber safety-toe and are ASTM-certified. They claim to be 50% lighter than steel and just as strong. They are also non-conductive to electricity and don't conduct heat or cold like steel does. And, because there's no metal in the carbon weave, they're ideal for environments with electronic security like airports or secure job sites. Perhaps it's time to start thinking of Christmas gifts?

10 Tips for Ladder Safety

step-ladder-safety.jpg

The autumn/winter season provides ample opportunities to use a ladder. Whether you're clearing leaves from gutters, checking insulation, or hanging Christmas lights, you'll need a longer reach that a ladder provides. The first tip to properly using a step ladder is to determine the correct ladder for the job. Unfortunately most of us only have room for one ladder in the house which is typically a step ladder and at most we have also have an extension ladder and many times these still aren't suitable for our task so we improvise, BIG MISTAKE.

Here are OSHA and the Home Safety Council's recommendations for using a ladder safely. It all starts with proper ladder setup which is thoroughly covered by this step-by-step instruction that includes photos. For the ultimate in safe footholds check out the RungGrip which are slip resistant ladder rung covers.
