After tackling home improvement projects and becoming frustrated at a lack of green building materials and supplies, Sarah Beatty took matters into her own hands. The result? Green Depot, an online retailer founded in 2005 that has expanded to several East Coast stores, including a flagship location in Manhattan.

Green Depot stocks a wealth of eco-conscious supplies such as paint, cleaners, FSC-certified wood, lighting, plumbing and decorative accents, including Timbron molding (pictured above.)

According to a company summary, "Green Depot is a leading supplier of environmentally friendly and sustainable building products, services and home solutions. Our primary goal is to facilitate green living and building in communities so that it is easy, affordable and gratifying."

In addition to several stores, Green Depot also features 10 distribution centers throughout the Northeast. Offering materials and supplies is a central focus of Green Depot, but the company is also committed to ongoing consumer education and the combatting of "greenwashing," a practice used to confuse and mislead consumers about green practices and products.

This is the island that iIve been dreaming of!! I'd put granite on one end for the baking I do but it's a wonderful style with plenty of drawers.
  • Dorothy, I agree - when I saw this picture, I immediately fell in love! What an amazing workspace.
