Smith & Wesson Home Security Services

There is no bigger name in the firearm industry than Smith & Wesson and they are betting that name recognition carries over to their new line of home security services that was introduced at the 2010 Builders' Show.

We spoke to VP Adrian Almendarez who was very excited about this product and seemed to be a true believer. He's spent more than 10 years working in the home security field for some of the biggest names but he thinks that Smith & Wesson is really doing it the right way by offering a system that is modular and you can set the exact level of security you want or they can build a system based on your preferences.

Security options include:
+ Smoke and fire sensors
+ Glass break sensors
+ Motion detectors (immune to pets)
+ Window and door contacts
+ Carbon monoxide detectors

There are three different communication systems you can use with your alarm. Internet, mobile phone or phone line. Having these multiple backup systems is key to keeping a home protected if one of the systems goes down.

We're certain that Smith & Wesson has had multiple opportunities to slap their name on all types of products but they've kept their brand strong by focusing on what they know best and home security services seems a natural extension to their worldwide reputation.

  • Just prior to the ISC West Show in Las Vegas Smith & Wesson Security Services announced a new partnership with Honeywell Security Products. The alliance takes name recognition in the Home Security Industry to the next level. Honeywell offers an extensive line of Home Security products that include surveillance packages as well as IP addressable cameras that can be integrated with it's Home Security Systems. Honeywell's "Total Connect" Packages are relatively affordable considering the level of peace of mind it provides.
  • Not Made in the USA
I can understand the Honeywell thing but if you look back about a year ago, Smith & Wessons big selling point was Made in the USA. Not no more
  • Definitely a good investment, especially if you find yourself alone in the house at times. good post... very informative..

  • Good information regarding a DIY Home Security System. I think it is important to consider the level of security one seeks. Ask yourself. What is the reason I am looking into a Home Security System? Traditionally, companies recommended "Full Perimeter" Protection that included "Interior Protection" such as Glass break & Motion Detectors, while this does offer additional protection; the majority of break-ins happen right through a door. Let's face it, the majority of the concern with most people is the safety of the family and pets. The majority of people's belonging can be replaced (traditional family keepsakes excluded); however, a life of a family member cannot.

This being the case, The Home Security Industry has evolved. A few years back, the larger Home Security Companies began to market "Basic Systems", which typically included a 3 door and Motion Detector package. Most companies will install this type of system for $0-$99.00. Monthly Monitoring from $25-$40 depending on the requested services. In reality, a DIY install is not much cheaper. When factoring all the potential installation and servicing issues that may result from an inexperienced installer, is it really worth the hassle and risk?

The Home Security Industry is more competitive than ever. A consumer has the option of choosing a reputable (very important) company. All in all, most homeowners should consider a Home Security System for these main reasons:

    1. Police 24 Hr Alert Panic
    2. Medical 24 Hr Alert Panic
    3. Fire 24 Alert Panic
    4. Monitored Smoke & Heat Detection (Especially for indoor pets that are in the home alone).

Electronics and jewelry are replaceable, that's what insurance is for. Personal well-being is a different scenario.

Thanks for your post! It was very informative!
