Bespoke Kitchens Must Thrive

bespoke-kitchen-cabinets.jpg

Bespoke is a term not generally used in the US but it's gaining in popularity as Americans are always looking for new ways to infuse a sense of class and exclusiveness into a product.

In the UK the bespoke garment industry is famous worldwide and sits opposite of mass manufacturing as seen in Asia and South America. The kitchen industry has split as well especially among kitchen furniture makers, some of whom create custom AKA bespoke cabinetry while large retailers are delivering flat pack kitchens that can be built and installed to your specs.

We're hoping the bespoke kitchen movement continues to thrive and the individual craftsman can maintain a healthy living. We need creative people to continue the trade so we all don't feel resigned to seeing and choosing the latest from IKEA.

  • Before beginning your cooking area develop, be very clear about what you want from your cooking area and create sure that your selection of cooking area organization can produce exactly what you want. If you are going through the procedure and expenditure of developing a unique cooking area then you shouldn't have to bargain your specifications and needs.
  • The main function of a kitchen is cooking or preparing food but it may also be used for dining and entertaining.
  • Custom kitchens are completely different from custom kitchens that are available on the market. These kitchens are actually designed to meet individual needs and specifications in mind. With kitchens, you will not only freedom of choice of materials and design of your kitchen, but you actually get to choose the design of the kitchen now. In fact, you can plan your entire kitchen the way you want with the help of professional designers. Thus, the final product will certainly be a kitchen you've always dreamed of.

  • There are a lot of cool small shop owners that want to offer personal service and high quality materials. I can't fault them for that. However, that isn't the world we live in. People don't stay in their homes long enough to enjoy the value of custom cabinets or other built-ins. The reason ikea is successful, in my opinon, is that it caters to our disposable world. you can throw up a few hundred to get a look you like and change it or move away a few years later. Mom and Pops need to understand that and look at their buisness to see how they can adapt, not resist. If you resist, then you go out of business.

As someone that is married to a cabinetmaker and had to close our showroom last year due to the economy I hope that consumers realize the benefits of working with a cabinetmaker over IKEA and or a box store. I can understand using the box stores or IKEA for many things but when you try to make a custom fit out of stock items it does not always work in the consumers favor - what with the time and effort and tools needed to do the work. Also, since our showroom not only sold our custom products we also sold branded cabinetry it was a hard nut to swallow every time someone came and asked why we did not price out like a box store. Our product was different, quality, material and option wise - we had a few things that were comparable but we did not have the buying power that the box stores have, we had a small staff so we could offer personal service and experience that we could pass along for products and even into the self installation questions. It was just so disheartening that we had to shut our doors.
